Virus Protection This series of articles is intended to keep you computer clean and running like it did when it was new. Hopefully you will be able to use these to prevent future problems and saving the you time and money to have someone like me to come fix your computer problems. For this first article we are going to look at virus protection, step one if you don't have protection... get it now. The goal of my articles is to prevent you from spending money, but in this case you will have to pay to get protection that will keep your computer safe. If you don't have protection you should be able to find a company to use with with a simple Google search. If you don't want to do any research and trust my judgement you should go with Symantic's Norton AntiVirus 200x. Since web sites and installation processes change frequently I can't walk you through step by step, but all you need to do is go to symantec.com and if you have trouble finding the Norton AntiVirus 200x software just type Norton in the search box. Before you purchase the software be sure to read and make sure you are buying the correct product. You should be spending approximately $40 and you do not need the more expensive internet sercurity, the other items offered in that software can be obtained for free from other company's that will be discussed in future articles. Once you have installed the software you need to run a full scan of your system, this could take over an hour if you have gone without protection for a long time and you may see a slow down in preformance for the first few days after the software is installed. The other thing that you have to ensure once you have the software installed is to make sure the virus definition files stay updated. In any new virus protection software you will have an option for automatic updates, you should have your definitions updated a minimun of once a week.
